The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 343

Cordelia had always dreamed of having a baby girl, but the dream didn't come true.

"Cordelia, don't cry, darling. It's not good for your eyes. Look at the bright side; you've got a son now. Your and Mr. Evans' son." Victoria comforted Cordelia, patting her shoulder gently.

"Yeah." Cordelia sat on the bed. Her arms were wrapped tightly around her knees, trying to nod in agreement with Victoria's words.

But the tears still fell, unstoppable.

Even though Victoria was a seasoned nurse and was used to life and death, it still hurt to see her old school friend, Cordelia, in such agony.

She had to continue her rounds, thus leaving Ronan to take care of a distraught Cordelia.

Cordelia bore no resentment towards Ronan; after all, he was the father of the baby. This was a hard situation for him, too, and he was more afraid of Cordelia's despair.

"Don't cry, love. We can always try for another baby," Ronan tried to console Cordelia.

He moved to embrace her, his arms wrapping around her in a comforting hold.

What truly broke Cordelia's heart was the reason Victoria had given her. The baby boy had taken all the nutrients, leaving the girl unable to survive. Cordelia hadn't even met her son yet, but she was already resentful, even though it wasn't his fault that his sister didn't survive.

People always said that siblings should love each other, but this seemed like a case of survival of the fittest.

Even though it wasn't the little boy's fault, Cordelia found herself blaming him for her daughter's death.

Having a little boy was not enough to fill the void left by her daughter's death. Plus, since Cordelia hadn't met the little boy yet, she didn't feel emotionally attached to him, which made her reluctant to meet him.

She feared that seeing him would only remind her of her daughter's death.

But the day came when baby Callum was finally released from the incubator.

That day, Janice brought the little boy to Cordelia.

The once wrinkly and scrawny infant had transformed into a chubby and adorable baby.

Ronan was smitten with his son.

Cordelia only spared him a single glance. This child didn’t need her to nurse him, making him feel like he wasn’t hers.

“Cordelia, this is your son. Don’t you like him?” Janice asked Cordelia.

“I like him just fine," Cordelia replied, fearing that speaking her true feelings would label her as heartless.
