"Engaged? What engagement?" Cordelia was utterly puzzled, having been so caught up with her work in England that she hadn't had a moment for gossip.
"Cordelia, do you think I'm stupid? Making out with him right under my nose, then doing the same in England—kissing and cuddling with one guy here and another across the pond. Tired of your games here, you jet off there, using your mom as an excuse."
Cordelia blinked in surprise. No wonder he hadn't joined her. Though he hadn't been there in person, he'd clearly had someone keeping tabs on her every move.
So, he knew about her escapades abroad.
Of course, Cordelia wasn't quite brazen enough to be guilt-free. She had been caught red-handed and had to own up to it.
She didn't confront Ronan about why he'd been tracking her; she had no ground to stand on.
Even now, she thought his talk of marriage was just a ploy to deceive her.
"Enough," Ronan said bluntly. "As of today, you're nothing to me but the mother of my child. That's where our relationship ends. You can move back to the campus housing."
Cordelia's gaze snapped up, her eyes widening as she stared at him incredulously.
"Don't believe I'm married?" With that, Ronan pulled a marriage certificate from beneath the TV, flinging it onto the coffee table.
He knew Cordelia was no Sherlock Holmes; she couldn't tell a real marriage certificate from a fake. And in this moment, she had no heart to try.
Cordelia's gaze was fixed on the bright red document, her lips tightly pressed together, her face pale, her mind numb. She had so much she wanted to say to Ronan, but now, not a single word would come out.
She wanted to ask Ronan where she had gone wrong, what had happened to drive him to such an inconceivable act...
But with his marriage certificate lying there, Cordelia felt that none of it mattered anymore.
She couldn't quite accept it yet.
"What about Callum? If she dares to treat Callum poorly, I'll fight her with everything I've got!" Cordelia felt both aggrieved and angry.
She couldn't fathom why Ronan had become so heartless out of the blue. After all, she had left with his consent, and it hadn't even been a week.
