The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 575

Victoria had just accepted Harold's friend request when her phone buzzed with a new message: "Dr. Graham, I got your contact from Cordelia. Is my mom really going to be okay?"

"Nothing to worry about, just a minor procedure. Your mom wasn't fibbing."

"Thanks, Dr. Graham. I'm trusting you with my mom's care."

"Rest easy. You know, it's rare to find such a devoted son these days." Victoria was eager for a bit more conversation. With most folks, a simple reassurance would suffice, but she felt inclined to engage more with Harold.

"Parents should never be neglected. Now that I'm miles away, I've already failed them. If I didn't care when they're ill, I'd be less than a son," Harold typed back.

A smile played at the corners of Victoria's lips. There's a saying, a man who is good to his parents is likely good to his wife too. She took a liking to Harold's character, finding him more and more appealing.

Of course, some married women warned against marrying a 'mama's boy', claiming they'd always side with their own parents. But Victoria wasn't married—her experience was limited, and she believed it all depended on how one treated their in-laws. She was determined never to push Harold into a corner.

But first, Harold would have to become hers.

"I'll take good care of your mom," Victoria assured him sincerely.

After chatting with Harold, Victoria scrolled through his Facebook profile. He rarely posted, and there wasn't much activity over the past six months except for some shared updates about Birchwood College's basketball games. His profile picture was of him in military uniform, saluting.

In that photo, it felt like Harold's gaze reached out to Victoria, touching something deep inside her.

She saved the picture.
