Ronan knew this was the perfect chance for Victoria to win Harold's trust and get closer to him. So, he didn't get involved. Instead, he handed Janice a thousand bucks, told her to get checked out, and had the chauffeur drive them to Victoria's clinic.
At the clinic, Janice had just finished her ultrasound.
Victoria examined the results carefully. "Auntie, you have a pathological pelvic effusion. You can either take medication or go for a minimally invasive surgery. Which do you prefer?"
"Does the surgery hurt?" Janice asked, her voice small and childlike.
"Don't worry, Auntie, we'll give you an anesthetic. You won't feel a thing. You'll just need a few days of rest at home. I'll talk to Mr. Evans about it," Victoria assured her.
"Oh, that's no problem. Mr. Evans is a reasonable man. He'll understand if I explain it to him."
Victoria couldn't help but smirk slightly. "A reasonable man doesn't just marry someone on a whim, does he?"
"Well, I don't know about that. But it seems Mr. Evans did take a trip to Birchwood."
The more Victoria thought about it, the more annoyed she became, convinced Harold had gone to Birchwood to tie the knot. But in front of Janice, she had to play the role of the dutiful, polite girl, so she bit back any harsh words.
Throughout Janice's minimally invasive procedure, Victoria was nothing but attentive, considerate, and incredibly gentle.
After it was done, Janice rested on the treatment bed. Her phone buzzed with a video call from Harold.
Mother and son were very close and often caught up over video calls.
Janice hesitated for a moment before turning to Victoria, "I didn't expect the kid to video call now. If my son asks, please assure him it's nothing serious. He'll worry otherwise."
Victoria was thrilled, thinking she was just a step away from being added to Harold's Messenger contacts.
