Ever since Marian and Jamie tied the knot, their marriage had been anything but smooth sailing. There was a constant chill between them, with Jamie's face often set in stone, rarely cracking a smile. The tension only grew after the Ava incident, and Jamie eventually banished Thomas to the spare bedroom next door, marking the start of their official separation.
Surprisingly, Marian got along pretty well with her father-in-law. Coming from a wealthy family, she knew better than to upset the elders in such a prestigious household.
One evening, after returning home, Marian made her way to her father-in-law's room to deliver a photograph to Thomas. When Thomas saw Alana in the photo, he was struck speechless, his eyes wide with shock.
Ronan had once mentioned that Alana had a twin sister, but Thomas could only stare at the serene woman in the photograph, his heart whispering, "Shadows of the past dance in my heart like a storm."
Memories from two or three decades ago came rushing back. Moreover, a young man stood beside Alana, fitting in so seamlessly that he almost seemed to resemble her. Thomas couldn't shake the thought—could this be Alana's son? And if he was Alana's son, did that mean he was his as well?
Thomas felt a surge of emotions swelling within him. But something didn't add up. This young man looked significantly younger than Jamie. If he were truly Thomas's son, he ought to be older since Alana had been with Thomas before moving on to Ava.
"Sweetheart, could I possibly keep one of these photos?" Thomas asked, his hands trembling.
Marian, sensing her father-in-law's unusual demeanor, simply replied, "Of course."
She sent the picture to Thomas's phone and then returned to her bedroom. Brimming with a sense of accomplishment, Marian couldn't wait to spill the beans to Jamie. "Your dad definitely had a thing with Alana, it's not just idle gossip."
Jamie, lying in bed, simply shifted away upon hearing Marian's words, pointedly ignoring her. He had little patience for Marian's gossip.
