The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 590

Victoria's unusual hesitance only made Janice more suspicious.

After finishing her visit, Victoria left.

On the way to Cordelia’s, she spent over five hundred bucks on some comforting BBQ ribs and chicken stew for Harold, sending it anonymously with just the note: “Millstone.”

Janice couldn’t shake the feeling that something was seriously off. By the afternoon, Ronan and Callum were back.

Ronan had taken Callum to his office for the day.

“Mr. Evans, there’s something I need to tell you,” Janice said after some deliberation, feeling the weight of the matter.

“Callum, go play upstairs for a bit,” Ronan said. Once Callum was out of earshot, Ronan settled onto the couch, “Alright, let’s hear it.”

“Victoria came by today and brought some meds. While I was getting her a glass of water, she got a call from Cordelia. It sounded like they were talking about... terminating a pregnancy. Victoria told her to rest up. Mr. Evans, did you know...” Janice trailed off, realizing she hadn’t known about Cordelia being pregnant.

Ronan’s face turned grim.

It dawned on him that Cordelia’s previous conversation with Petra was a ploy to throw her off track. After all, he had married Petra, and it seemed unlikely Cordelia would tell her the truth—that the baby was his.

Now, she’d gone and had an abortion!

Grabbing his car keys from the coffee table, Ronan stormed out.

“Mr. Evans, are you coming back for dinner?” Janice called after him.

“Don’t wait up!”

Once in his car, Ronan lit a cigarette, his hands trembling.

After finishing his smoke and trying to steady his emotions, he muttered under his breath, “Damn it.”

His car sped toward Cordelia’s place.

When he knocked, she didn’t ask who it was; she just opened the door.

Cordelia was pale, drained of all color.
