The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 636

“Don't want it, huh?” Daniella couldn't hide her discomfort as she held the returned gift in her hands. It felt like offering someone a pie only to have it thrown back in your face.

“Yeah, but thanks anyway,” Harold replied, his voice a mix of politeness and finality.

“Can I ask…” Daniella hesitated, suddenly realizing that it must have been something Janice said to Harold. The whole 'live-in son-in-law' thing at the Evans household must have really irked Janice.

In most families, no one was thrilled about their son moving in with his wife's parents, especially if he was an only child.

Daniella suddenly felt a wave of weakness wash over her. She knew there was no point in asking further. Disheartened, she walked away.

But all her frustration now had a new target: Emerson.

Seething, she shot him a message on Messenger: “Grumpy old man, don’t you know what to say and what not to say?”

Emerson was driving when he saw the message. He nearly choked on his outrage.

Grumpy old man???

Old, maybe, but grumpy?

He glanced at his reflection in the rearview mirror. All he saw was a sharply dressed, youthful-looking guy staring back at him. How did that translate to 'grumpy old man'? He was fuming!

He pulled over and quickly typed a reply to Daniella: “Young lady, you better back up those words.”

“I always do,” Daniella shot back, suspecting that Emerson had deliberately stirred the pot with the Evans family.

Emerson wondered how this fiery young woman planned to take responsibility for her words.

Meanwhile, Daniella was plotting her next move. To win Harold over, she needed to get on Janice's good side because it was clear that Harold valued his mother's opinion. Maybe it was something Janice had said that had made him reconsider his relationship with Daniella.

She had to act fast, and the perfect excuse was the drone project that Callum had mentioned.

But drones were tricky business.
