The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 648

Victoria had headed off to get advice from Cordelia once again.

Lately, with Daniella as a fierce rival in love, Victoria had been chasing her own romantic aspirations with an intensity she’d never shown, not even in her most dedicated study days. She’d been pestering Cordelia for strategies, as if preparing for the most crucial exam of her life.

This had all happened just yesterday afternoon, with Ronan also at home.

Cordelia was lounging on the couch, mumbling to herself, “Is this Daniella’s handwriting? Not bad at all.”

“Cordelia, whose side are you on?” Victoria protested, feeling a bit betrayed.

“Of course I’m on your side. But you know the saying, keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Daniella’s head over heels for Harold right now, and he hasn’t wavered yet. How can we cool her jets about Harold so Emerson can make his move?” Cordelia furrowed her brow in deep thought, but a solid plan eluded her.

Ronan, meanwhile, had a scheme brewing in the back of his mind, though it wasn’t exactly the most honorable. He couldn’t risk suggesting it to Cordelia; she’d only accuse him of being manipulative. He had no desire to shoot himself in the foot.

So, with Cordelia out of the equation, today he decided to subtly direct Marie and Emerson instead.

The three of them sat atop the highest point in Millstone, taking in the breathtaking view.

“Well, Mr. Evans, fancy seeing you here for a chat. It's a rare occasion,” Emerson teased Ronan.

“I haven’t been in the mood these past few years.”

“Can’t blame you. Wife runs off; mood goes sour,” Emerson quipped.

Ronan was clearly peeved by Emerson’s jab, but Emerson and Marie were in stitches.

“But seriously, Emerson, you’re in a tight spot. Think about it. The girl you’re after is chasing another guy – a seemingly perfect one at that. You can’t just bulldoze your way through this. Unless, of course, she discovers some fatal flaw in him,” Marie mused.

“A flaw?” Emerson’s brow furrowed slightly. “I don’t know much about Harold. His flaws are news to me.”
