The Contracted Ever After novel Chapter 649

Ronan never took a risk unless he knew the deck was stacked in his favor. He was the kind of guy who didn't just hit the bullseye; he’d nail three targets with a single shot.

When Ronan got home, Cordelia gave his suit a sniff, channeling her inner detective.

Ronan burst out laughing. "What's up, Sherlock? Think I've got a mistress stashed somewhere?"

"If you don't want people to know, don't do it," she shot back, throwing his own words at him. She had a gut feeling about whether he was up to no good.

She had to admit, the man was walking temptation. His very presence was like a siren song to women. But it was clear he kept himself in check. If he ever decided to play the field, he'd have no shortage of willing partners.

Cordelia couldn't fathom how she'd been so trusting over the years. Looking back now sent shivers down her spine.

"Why don't you give it a try?" Ronan teased, starting to unbuckle his belt.

"Let's not and say we did," Cordelia quickly replied, knowing full well his flirtatious challenges often led to more... passionate encounters, and she wasn't ready for another round just yet.

A few days later, Ronan got a frantic call from Dustin.

"Mr. Evans, you were right," Dustin's voice quivered over the line. "Petra... she's been hitting her kid. We all thought the child was just a crier, you know, with our neighborhood's thin walls, everyone hears everything. But when I went up there, Petra opened the door, said the kid had taken a tumble and was making a fuss. She tried to shoo me away, but I went in anyway. And there... the child was tied up in his own room. I mean, who does that..."

Dustin broke down, unable to continue. "In all my years, I never imagined such cruelty. The child is so young, so innocent. And to think, Petra adopted the kid. Was this her twisted intent all along? Mr. Evans..."
