Sitting in the passenger seat, Ariella fastened her seatbelt as the man in the driver's seat quickly took off his police coat and tossed it behind him. Sporting a serious expression, he said, "You know there's a tiger on the mountain, yet you still choose to head towards it."
Ariella replied, "How can you catch the tiger without entering its den?"-
"Do you want money or your life?"
"Fortune favors the bold."
Pizarro Leyba nervously commented, "It's already risky enough. When I got out of the car earlier to buy water, I accidentally bumped into a car full of cops who nodded at me. I almost pissed my pants, afraid they'd come closer and say hello."
Ariella couldn't help but burst into laughter, saying, "Your problem isn't mental strength, it's your urinary system."
Pizarro glared at her, "I'm wearing a fake police uniform. If I get caught, I'll be detained at the very least. If I get arrested, what are you going to do? Who's gonna save you?"
Observing Pizarro getting increasingly anxious, Ariella finally spoke in a gentle tone, "Hey, don't be angry. I came out safe and sound, didn't I?"
Pizarro, avoiding eye contact, muttered, "They say women should support each other, but our vice president is incredibly ruthless. She puts on a friendly face when the boss is around, but behind his back, she's a backstabber. Just Look at the clients she's been introducing you to in the past month—all of them are losers. I thought she'd back off as the boss was about to return, but instead, she sent you to Everett. It’s clear that she wants to get rid of you once and for all!"
Compared to Pizarro's anger and dissatisfaction, Ariella seemed much more relaxed, saying, "Who can blame her? The boss is my senior, and he hired me right after graduation and promoted me to a B-level. The vice president clearly has feelings for him, and as a woman, she's naturally envious of me."
Pizarro snorted sarcastically and continued to complain, "She keeps introducing you to all these losers, and you haven't said anything to the boss. Once you receive ten 'bad reviews,' she'll tell you to leave."
Ariella replied, "Do you think this is like kindergarten where you can simply complain to the teacher and solve the problem? We're the teachers now; so who are we going to complain to? She's already convinced I got promoted through connections. If I go to the boss every time I have a problem, it will only confirm her suspicions. Besides, how would the boss think of me if I can't handle such trivial matters? It would damage my reputation, and he would be criticized for being shortsighted."
Pizarro was speechless for a moment before he spoke up, "I suppose she didn't expect you to actually go see Everett. There was a rumor that a female tutor was thrown out of the Qin family's car half-dressed and had to walk for hours to get back to the city. No one dared to call the police, and the incident was eventually hushed up. Since then, no one dares to take a job from the Qin family, no matter how much money is offered—except for you…"
Ariella stared straight ahead, her face inscrutable in the dimly lit car. She simply responded, "Well, I got through it."
Just as she finished speaking, her phone buzzed. She took it out and saw a text from an unfamiliar number. The message read, "Your police uniform looked convincing. Be more confident next time."
Seeing these words, Ariella immediately thought of Everett and even imagined his expression and tone as he said them. In just a moment, her relief turned into apprehension, weighing heavily on her heart.
Staring at her phone for several seconds, she typed and deleted several times before finally settling on a brief message: "Thank you for the reminder, Mr. Carter."
After waiting for a while, Everett didn't reply. Assuming he wouldn't, Ariella put her phone back in her bag, trying to suppress her panic.
Seeing Ariella lost in her thoughts, Pizarro decided to steer the conversation away from negative topics and asked, "What would you like to eat?"
Simultaneously, Ariella asked, "What are you in the mood for?"
Pizarro replied, "I don't mind, it's up to you. Regardless, it’s great news that you found a client, whether they’re good or bad."
Ariella said, "Let's head home. I'll prepare something special for you as a token of gratitude for always being there for me."
