A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 278

Matilda didn't spare a thought for Adrian, who was locked out on the balcony, as she nonchalantly left for work. By the time she arrived at the studio, Baxter wore a grave expression, surveying the room. His gaze landed on the empty seat—Orson hadn't shown up.

An hour late, Orson finally strolled in, slumping into his chair, ready to crash, but Baxter clamped a hand on his shoulder and yanked him upright.

"We've got a situation," Baxter announced, clearing his throat. "Reliable sources... Mr. Yeager is pulling his funding."

Matilda froze, taking a long moment to process the news. "What?"

The rest of the studio erupted in shock. Luna stopped typing, swiveling to face Baxter. "Are you serious?"

"What good is it if I'm serious?" Baxter slapped the table. "Declan pulling out—that's the serious part!"

A hushed silence fell over the group, the weight of the news stifling any immediate response.

"The Simpson family's funds were already funneled into marketing and operations. Now with a major backer out, we need to find a new direction, fast..."

Baxter's stern face softened slightly. "Prepare yourselves, folks. The road ahead won't be smooth sailing. We're just getting off the ground, and reaching a profit, well, that's gonna take some growth and time..."

Matilda suddenly shot to her feet.

"The goddess..." Yoshi stuttered, his voice trailing off. "What are you planning?"

Matilda had intended to quit at month's end, but with the studio in crisis, she couldn't abandon her friends in their hour of need.

Her fists clenched, determination set in her eyes. "Leave it to me."

"You have a plan?" Hala eyed her skeptically. "You don't happen to know Declan Yeager, do you?"

Without hesitation, Matilda strode out of the office. "I'm taking a leave of absence. I'm heading to the Yeager Group!"
