A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 293

However, the thought was fleeting. Orson ruffled Logan's hair before saying, "Hang on tight, buddy."

"Don't you get hurt, okay?" Logan looked up at him with worry in his big eyes. "If we both disappear, Mom's going to be worried sick. Please don't get hurt, she'd be so heartbroken..."

Logan's words managed to stir something deep within Orson, a man who wasn't easily moved. He pushed Logan's forehead firmly, guiding his head to rest on his shoulder. "Close your eyes, kid. Don't watch."

Logan clutched at Orson's shirt, tears welling up. "Uncle Orson, I'm fine. Just don't get hurt..."

Even while crying, all he thought about was Orson's safety.

Orson's thoughts turned to Matilda. She had the heart of an angel, treating everyone with kindness and care like sunlight, even after being trampled and humiliated. He had learned about Matilda's past and knew of the unfairness she had borne. Yet, she remained good-hearted, her eyes still shining with the clear light of hope even when pushed to the brink.

It was her character and upbringing that had given her such a strong backbone. Five years of imprisonment had not broken her into a madwoman, loathing society and cackling at her own insanity. Instead, she always had the courage to start anew.

Thinking about it, Orson realized Matilda was braver than he ever was.

In a low voice, Orson said, "Alright, let's head back and see your mom soon."

Somehow, Matilda had become a source of comfort for them both.

It seemed that in the grand scheme of things, they were always being protected by the very person they wanted to protect.

Because they wanted to protect, they had to be strong enough to bear it all.

Suddenly, the household staff of the Crowe family, who had been respectable just moments before, lunged at Orson, their servant's attire shed to reveal their intimidating builds. Orson, backed into a corner with one hand still shielding Logan's head, blocked an incoming blow with his free hand.

Pain surged through him, but he managed to kick an assailant in the unprotected belly, sending them flying into several others. Chaos ensued!
