A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 298

Yvan stood there in a daze, watching Matilda leave with Adrian.

Just like that, she was gone.

His chest felt hollow, as if his heart had been gouged out.

Stumbling back home, Yvan was met by his mother Violet coming down the staircase. Her eyes widened in alarm at the sight of him, “Where's Logan? He was just here…”

“Matilda took him.”

Yvan's voice was a hoarse whisper, “Just now.”

Violet, clutching a delicate gold necklace with a tiny angel pendant, had intended it for Logan. Realizing he was gone, she tucked the necklace away, murmuring softly, “Oh, well... next time. Next time.”

But when would 'next time' be? Or would it ever come?

...

Matilda arrived home, exhausted.

Usually, Orson would be there, glasses perched on his nose, looking like a university professor, cradling a steaming cup of coffee and ready to brew one for her too. They'd sit in the cool relief of the air conditioning while he threw her chilly glances.

But the house felt robbed now, with Orson gone.

Instead, Adrian was standing in the foyer, draped in his overcoat. He greeted Matilda with a cheeky, “Aren't you going to welcome me?”

Sighing, Matilda went to make herself coffee, flicking on the air conditioning on her way. “There are slippers on the rack. Help yourself.”

Adrian shrugged off his coat, eyeing the men's slippers on the rack, “Whose are these?”

“Orson's, who else?”

Matilda returned with two cups of instant coffee, which made Adrian's brow furrow in disdain, “Instant garbage, no thanks!”

“...” Matilda had forgotten Adrian was a pro barista. She dumped both servings into one cup, unbothered, with a swift gesture, “Fancy pants.”
