A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 297

Matilda was a trembling mess when she finally received Logan's call, her eyes stained red as she rushed to the Boyd residence. Stumbling through the front door, she was immediately met by a slender shadow that launched into her arms.

Logan's voice quivered with lingering fear, "Mommy..."

"Logan, you scared the life out of me, do you know that?"

She caressed his face, "You're okay, right? Where's Uncle Orson?"

Uncle Orson? Yvan sneered at the title, his eyes narrowing sarcastically, "Matilda, are you really going to keep lying to your son?"

Uncle Orson, my foot! Orson is nothing but a stand-in for Gideon!

Matilda's face went ghostly pale, "Shut your mouth!"

But it was too late, Logan had pieced everything together—from the moment he entered the Orson household to Yvan's cutting remark. He knew...

Orson wasn't his real uncle... nor did he have any relation to his blood uncle, Gideon...

So... where was his real uncle? Why wasn't he showing up? Why were Mommy and Orson pretending, conspiring in a charade?

The boy's mind was sharp, flashing with countless questions, and as each possibility was dismissed, the remaining improbabilities turned all the more striking and heartbreaking.

Logan's lips quivered, "Mommy... where is my uncle?"

Matilda tried to speak, to explain, but her voice failed her.

She was powerless to articulate that cruel truth.

She lifted Logan in her arms, walking out of the Boyd's front door, with Yvan calling after her, "Matilda, Orson is no uncle, the child needs his real father... and that's me."

Real father...

Matilda laughed bitterly.

"Even without a drop of blood shared between them, Orson is still a better father to Logan than you ever were!"

Her words were a death sentence to his heart!

Yvan's pupils shrunk; he thought returning Logan safely would mitigate some of the old resentment...

But new love cannot outweigh ancient hatred, and he had forgotten how thoroughly he had shattered Matilda. To have her return now was as insurmountable as scaling the heavens!
