A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 310

When Matilda and Adrian safely made it back to the ship, everyone on deck breathed a sigh of relief. Hala and Luna quickly wrapped them in warm robes, rushing to their aid. Matilda was shivering from the cold, her body still reeling from the long soak in the ocean. Luna handed her a steaming mug of tea, "Come on, let's get you back to your room to warm up."

Yoshi offered Adrian a hot cup of tea, "You should get some rest too. Thanks for saving our goddess."

The crew treated Matilda like family, and Adrian's fearless dive into the sea to save her had certainly earned their admiration. Hala shook his head in amazement, "Rich, handsome, and a hero. You're the complete package."

Standing apart from the crowd, Yvan looked on with a pale face, a picture of turmoil and helplessness.

It was as if he had suddenly come to realize too much, his brain unable to process the complex emotions. It wasn't until he felt a sharp pain that he snapped back to reality.

Five years ago... If only Matilda had reached out to save Rachel instead of pushing her... Would everything they knew need to be reevaluated?

Shivering, Yvan realized his usual bravado had abandoned him.

The beginning of the year had brought fireworks lighting up the cruise ship's sky. As Yvan watched, the bright colors flickering in his vision reminded him of Matilda's fall.

He hesitated for a moment too long, and someone else had jumped in to save her. Seeing her now, safe and sound with Adrian and receiving cold looks when he tried to approach, Yvan felt like he was always too late in Matilda's life. She loved him when he didn't love her back, and now, as he watched her laugh and chat with someone else, he understood that love and habit had quietly burrowed deep into his heart.

Did he love her?

Could a person's heart be divided in two? He hadn't forgotten Rachel, yet he found himself falling for the Matilda of today.
