A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 345

Hearing Eugene rave about how well Matilda has been doing lately, Yvan couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. He was worried that she might truly step back and leave his world for good.

They say being on parallel paths in a relationship is torturous because you never meet. But Yvan felt that it’s when the paths cross just once and then diverge forever, each heading in opposite directions, that truly tears the heart apart. After that single moment of crossing, they would never see each other again.

He walked out of the office, a figure of solitude, and stepped into the elevator to leave Eugene's company. As he left, the young receptionist watched his retreating figure, rubbing her eyes as if trying to clear a vision.

For some reason, she thought… his silhouette looked so forlorn.

...

That night, Godfrey came home early, his body weary. Matilda had just finished working on a project with Logan. Seeing him, she poured him a warm cup of tea, "Are you alright? How did it go with Chloe?"

"Declan won't budge," Godfrey sighed, taking a sip of the tea and then punching the couch in frustration. "Damn it, my father is close with their family, making it impossible to break ties without causing a scene. That's what pains me the most."

Matilda felt a tinge of disappointment but didn't want to lose hope, so she encouraged him, "It's okay. Chloe will definitely trust you."

"I hate that I'm not in a management position at the company. If I were, I'd have the power to use my company to stand up against Declan's."

Godfrey looked up at Matilda, his gaze intense, "Matilda, do you think I should go back and take over my dad's company?"

His sharp look took Matilda by surprise, "But I thought you always disliked corporate affairs. I thought cooking was your passion…"

"No, being a chef gets you nowhere!" Godfrey burst out, unable to contain his frustration. "Because I've been focusing on living a happy life at this age, not fully taking over my family's business, I lack the power to confront Declan head-on!"

He was willing to give up his greatest passion and rein in his free-spirited nature, as if going into battle, all for Chloe.
