A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 349

Matilda was tightly held by Carter, her back pressed against the cold supermarket shelves. The crowd around them, their eyes a mix of fear and rage, dared not make a move. Yvan arrived with a squad of police officers, responding to the call of a violent crime involving a hostage situation. His heart tightened as he pushed through to the scene and saw the woman at knifepoint. He shouted, "Matilda!"

"Yvan."

Carter's gaze was like a stagnant pond, devoid of any spark of life. Since the tragedy that struck his daughters, his life had lost all purpose.

Revenge... It was all about revenge!

Ending the life of the woman who brought him to his knees was his sole desire.

Upon recognizing the middle-aged man before him, Yvan was taken aback, murmuring in disbelief, "Mr. Archer..."

"Don't you dare speak my name!" Carter Archer bellowed, a mix of agony and fury in his voice. This heartbroken father had lost both his daughters—one dead, the other in a coma, reduced to a living shell—because of their infatuation with the man standing before him.

"Yvan, you share in the blame! Tell me, why is the woman who ruined Rachel still breathing?"

Yvan's heart ached at the accusation. "Please, stop this madness. There's still a way out. Just put the knife down..."

"Save your negotiations for someone else!" Carter's eyes were bloodshot, his gaze cloudy. The depths of despair had transformed this once vibrant man.
