A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 359

When Adrian arrived at the hospital room, Logan whispered, "Mom's inside, just be cool, okay?"

Suddenly, Adrian felt a wave of nervousness wash over him. Matilda had amnesia, but what kind? Was it from a traumatic brain injury, or was it stress-related? How severe was her memory loss? Did she even remember him?

Logan mentioned that Matilda had forgotten Yvan because of his mistreatment, sparking a fear in Adrian that he, too, might have been less than kind in the beginning. Could it be that she had also wiped him from her memory?

Pushing the door open, Adrian saw Matilda reading, glasses perched on her nose, her lips a soft pink. She looked like a serene painting as she turned her face towards him.

Hearing the door, Matilda looked up, her gaze blank as she stared at the handsome, mixed-race man for a few seconds.

This was not going well, Adrian thought, tempted to just turn around and leave.

Then, Matilda’s voice, cool and distant, hit him. "And who are you?"

That word "and" felt like a punch. Adrian covered his face in dismay. Just as he feared, she had forgotten him too!

Logan couldn't help but snicker. All the way to the hospital, Adrian had been smug, thinking Matilda forgetting Yvan was his chance to shine. Yet, here he was, being asked "And who are you?" like he was nobody special.

How could he be lumped together with Yvan in her mind?

Despite their differences, Adrian couldn't help but think there was a vast gap between what he had done and what Yvan did. Yet, it seemed Matilda's brain had hit a reset button, erasing all memories of those who hurt her, simplifying things to an almost brutal extent.

Matilda tilted her head, looking at Adrian standing defeated at the doorway. With one hand covering his face and the other extended, he introduced himself, "I’m Adrian."
