A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 361

However, when Keaton strolled in to check on them ten minutes later, he was greeted by quite the scene. Yvan and Adrian faced each other like sworn enemies, engaging in a silent battle of wills while plastering fake smiles on their faces.

Keaton's mouth twitched in amusement. The way these two could plot each other's downfall behind closed doors while still smiling in person was Oscar-worthy. They were truly missing out on a career in Hollywood...

Yvan and Adrian both looked up at Keaton, who felt as if he had accidentally wandered into a war zone given the daggers being thrown his way.

Another ten minutes passed, and a young nurse came in to remove the IV from Matilda's hand, only to find the hospital's heartthrob, Dr. Keaton, squeezed next to Sea City's tycoon, Mr. Boyd, both men holding cards. Opposite them sat a boy who bore a striking resemblance to Mr. Boyd and a mixed-race gentleman who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere.

At the center of it all was Matilda, wearing a helpless smile.

What on earth was going on here?

Lucky for them, the VIP room had a bed spacious enough for five, making them look like a family gathered around the fireplace on Christmas Eve. They were covered with a blanket, huddled around a small table piled with cards. Matilda tried to shift her position, only to bump into a leg.

Yvan's head shot up, and Matilda's heart skipped a beat. She hadn't... accidentally touched him, had she?

The look in Yvan's eyes deepened in an instant, startling Matilda. Desperate to divert attention, she was relieved when Logan shouted from the side, “Three of a kind! Pay up, folks!”

In this game, drawing such a hand meant everyone else had to throw in an extra fifty bucks as a bonus to the winner. Logan, clutching his chips, was grinning ear to ear. “I knew I was gonna draw a three of a kind; I just played the odds!” he boasted.

Yvan had to admit, Logan was pretty sharp to apply mathematics to the randomness of card games.

An hour later, everyone was sprawled across the bed. Keaton turned to Yvan and complained, “It's all your fault for dragging me into this. I'm down five hundred bucks.”
