A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 369

Logan was taken aback; he hadn't expected Matilda to bring up such a question after all this time in the hospital. He was worried about triggering Matilda's fragile mental state. She was already amnesiac and emotionally unstable. What if she did something rash upon finding out what Yvan had done to her?

Logan crossed his legs tightly and gave the same response as Yvan, "No... no connection at all!"

Matilda stared into Logan's face for a long while, "Really? Are you sure you're not hiding something from me about our past?"

"Absolutely not!" Logan quickly regained his composure. "I barely know the guy!"

Well, that was true.

Matilda tugged at Logan's face, "Keep lying to me! Then why do you look so much like him?!"

Did she and Yvan once share a marriage?

Logan, quite deftly, picked up on Matilda's train of thought, "I'm still young, how can you tell? People change as they grow. When we're little, everyone looks similar."

Logan added with a hum, "Why not say I look like you then! Are you doubting your own flesh and blood?"

Matilda fell silent.

After a long pause, she finally let go of Logan, her gaze distant as she murmured, "But Logan, I just feel... my emotions towards Yvan are so complicated."

So complex, they couldn't simply be categorized as love or hate.

Logan looked away, muttering, "It's just that Mommy's memory loss is making her extra sensitive to the people around her. It'll get better with time."

Hopefully, Matilda thought to herself.

In the following days, Matilda's wounds began to heal. Once, as Logan was helping her change her dressings, Yvan walked in to see her bare back, marred with shocking scars. The sight made Yvan's eyes narrow sharply before he closed them and stepped out.
