A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 370

\"Why?\"

Logan's question caught Yvan off-guard.

Why... Why did he do this?

But Yvan couldn't find an answer.

Thinking Yvan hadn't understood his question, Logan asked again, more carefully this time, \"Why, after treating Mom so badly before, are you now going out of your way to protect her?\"

Yvan's fingers stiffened, and as he met Logan's gaze, words stuck in his throat, \"I...\"

\"From the beginning, you wanted her dead.\" Logan took a deep breath, locking eyes with Yvan. \"But in the end, you're the one trying to keep her safe. Mr. Boyd, I can't figure you out. If you don't love my mom, just let us go. Why...\"

Why keep hurting him, yet silently, solemnly watch over her when she's in trouble?

His feelings were too twisted for Logan to understand, let alone accept.

\"I don't know either.\"

After a long silence, Yvan chuckled lowly, \"Logan, I don't know why either. The things I was convinced of from the start were wrong, so my actions were wrong too. I don't know how to make amends, let alone... why I would want to keep your mom by my side.\"

\"Do you regret it now?\" Logan met Yvan's eyes, their gazes—one large, one small—silently clashing. \"Do you know the truth about what happened back then?\"

\"Some evidence has been clarified. What remains unclear is the role of a mysterious figure.\" Yvan looked out the window, then his gaze returned. \"Your mom was innocent back then.\"
