A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 393

The moment Logan looked up, his heart skipped a beat at the sight of Yvan standing at the doorway. "Mr. Boyd..."

"What's going on?" Yvan was followed closely by Declan and Godfrey. Declan, gripping Chloe by the arm, retorted, "See for yourself. Still think I kidnapped Matilda? I swear, I'll make you regret it!"

Chloe, ignoring Declan's harsh words, dashed out faster than anyone could react. "Matilda!"

Matilda was huddled in a corner, her eyes wide with terror, resembling a frightened little animal. Yvan stepped forward, took off his jacket, and draped it over her, then turned to Chloe, "Take her and go."

"Who said you could take her away?"

Esme, not yet realizing who Yvan was, pointed at him and Declan, "None of you are leaving today!"

Yvan didn't even acknowledge her, walking straight up to Logan, who was holding a gun, his hand visibly shaking.

Lowering his gaze, Yvan called out, "Carl!"

"Mr. Boyd." Carl approached quickly as Yvan effortlessly took the gun from Logan's hand. "Take the young master to the hospital."

"Right away!"

Before Logan could utter a word, Yvan touched his wrist, his fingertips cold.

Pain shot through Logan, bringing tears to his eyes and a shudder through his body.

Yvan toyed with the gun for a moment before pocketing it. Then, as if everyone else was invisible, he squatted down beside Logan. "Guns have quite a kickback. Even adults sometimes get hurt by it, let alone a kid. You've fired twice; your wrist is dislocated."

Logan, fighting back tears, insisted, "It doesn't hurt."

He would do anything to protect Matilda, even if it meant breaking his own hand.

Yvan remained silent, though he wanted to ask Logan, was it really that hard to rely on him just once?
