A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 407

Orson gazed into Matilda's eyes, "Matilda, you've got to keep going. Stay strong."

As long as you're breathing, there's still hope.

A pang of sharp, sour emotion hit Matilda right in the chest as she looked into Orson's usually cold eyes, finding an odd sort of comfort in his gesture. He might not know every detail of her ordeal, but he understood she was deeply hurt.

Later, Orson whispered, "Close your eyes."

Matilda complied, feeling Orson's presence drawing closer. Then, he wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a chilly embrace.

"Things will get better," he murmured.

Suddenly, he was gone, and when Matilda opened her eyes again, she only caught a glimpse of his shadow disappearing. Then, the door swung open, revealing Yvan, "I thought I heard something..."

But the room was silent, save for Matilda sitting alone by the bed. Orson had vanished as swiftly as he appeared, leaping out the window like a gust of wind.

Yvan frowned, "When did you get a necklace?"

Looking down, Matilda noticed a golden necklace with a cross pendant, at the center of which was a natural diamond.
