Why do those eyes hold the same icy indifference as when she first forgot him?
Matilda remained silent, not directly answering Yvan's question. Instead, she offered a cold smile before pulling her hand away.
"If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now."
Her haste to leave made Yvan panic, his voice rising in desperation. He felt like a spectacle, mocked by onlookers as he forcefully pulled her back into the hospital room. "You enjoy playing me for a fool, don't you?!"
Yvan's eyes were bloodshot with anger and pain. Even though he could be as cold and unfeeling as any, he was still human. The deceit, the concealment, his efforts to make amends—all mocked by her indifferent gaze.
Matilda let out a light laugh, "Quite amusing, actually."
At that moment, Yvan felt as if his heart was pierced by a thousand arrows.
He staggered back, yet with a surge of emotion, he pressed his hands against Matilda's shoulders, wanting to kiss her, to merge her into his very being.
Matilda sensed his intentions, but it was too late to dodge. She pushed against his shoulders, "Let me go!"
The soundproofing of the hospital room was excellent, making her struggle seem futile. How could a woman, battered by life's blows, resist a man as overpowering as Yvan?
