A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 426

Yvan was well aware of the bitter truth. He could weather all of Matilda's disdain and resistance, but the thought of waiting for her to move on and leave him behind was terrifying. If Matilda reached a point where she could let go of even her hatred, Yvan would become nothing more than a stranger to her.

...

Matilda and Logan arrived home half an hour later, back to the apartment Godfrey had left them. As they entered, they spotted a note on the table covered in a thin layer of dust, indicating it had been there for a while.

[I don't know when you'll be back, and I might be too caught up to meet you. I've transferred the apartment under Chloe's name, so you and Logan can stay here in peace.]

Godfrey's handwriting was elegant. Matilda sighed as she read the note and began tidying up the place. It had been a long time, and parts of the apartment were dusty and neglected.

After much effort, Matilda and Logan finally managed to clean up. Exhausted, they collapsed on the couch. Logan, with a smile, said, "Mom, I haven't felt this tired in a long while."

Then, with a concerned look, he asked, "How's the wound on your back doing?"

Matilda's eyes dimmed before she reassured Logan, "It's almost healed."

Logan stared at her face, "I don't want Mom to have any scars."

Matilda nearly teared up at Logan's words, gently touching his head, "It's okay. As long as you're with me, Mom can heal from any wound."

To Matilda, Logan was everything. Without him, her life would be... indistinguishable from death.

That night, they finally had a good sleep, free from the constant fear that had shadowed their days with Yvan. Now, with plans to go abroad and meet Criss, Matilda felt a flutter of excitement.
