A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 429

A team of SWAT officers was hot on the trail, but out of nowhere, their radios crapped out. No matter how hard they tried, all they got was this irritating static noise, loud enough to drive anyone nuts. They were all dumbfounded until someone shouted, “Check the CCTV!”

“The CCTV’s...bugged out,” someone muttered under their breath. “Seal off the exits, but keep it on the down-low. We don't want to spook the public. Our team’s got the place covered; there’s no way they're slipping through our fingers!”

Meanwhile, in the bathroom, Logan was wiping the blood off a man’s hands with some paper towels, his voice steady, “I don’t know what kind of mess you’ve got yourself into, but it can’t be good. Next time we meet, I might not be on your side—”

Logan paused, his resolve clear, “If it comes to it, I won’t hesitate to stand against you.”

The man remained silent, his gaze deep and thoughtful. Eventually, Logan opened a small ventilation window at the back of the bathroom. “I was kidnapped through this very window once. If you're not claustrophobic, you might manage to squeeze through. It’s a tight fit, though, might feel a bit suffocating.”

Logan meticulously wiped away any fingerprints the man might have left, his attention to detail almost surprising the man, “I had my mentor jam the SWAT’s tracking to buy you some time. Now go. Once you’re out, whether you live or die, don’t contact me again.”

There’s a certain rationality in kids that can sometimes surpass adults.

The man grunted in acknowledgment, then reached out as if to touch Logan’s face, but Logan, with a wary smile, dodged, “Don’t tell anyone I saved you. I’ll forget it ever happened.”

Forgetting was the best outcome for both of them.

Footsteps approached the bathroom, signaling a search was underway. Logan pushed the man, whispering urgently, “Go, now!”
