A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 459

...

The evening Godfrey returned and saw Matilda in the house, he couldn't hide his surprise.

"You're back in town?" Godfrey chuckled, a glint of surprise in his eyes. "Quite the unexpected pleasure. I just swung by to tidy up a bit; didn’t expect anyone around, let alone a clean house."

"Thanks for keeping this place in mind, as always."

Matilda couldn't help but admire Godfrey's fondness for Chloe. Despite Chloe's ongoing struggle for freedom, Godfrey never seemed to forget about their little nest — occasionally dropping by to dust off the cobwebs, leaving behind notes, a gesture of his thoughtfulness.

"I’ll be on my way soon. It’s good you’re here; I've got a flight to catch before dawn."

As Godfrey peeked inside and then stepped back out, he asked, "Had visitors?"

"Huh?" Matilda, caught off guard but not attempting to conceal the truth, confessed, "Yeah, Cyprian dropped me off last night. It got late, so I let him crash here."

"Oh, Cyprian, huh?" Godfrey squinted with a knowing smile. "Mr. Layton."

With a nod, Matilda inquired, "You know him?"

"Indeed," murmured Godfrey. "What’s Cyprian doing in Whty City, though?"

Matilda froze.

"Cyprian's on Whty City's blacklist."

Godfrey locked eyes with her, a serious tone in his voice, "Actually, the whole Wind Deity crew is. To the folks over at Sea City, Wind Deity is somewhat of a guardian angel. But, Whty City folks? Not fans of Cyprian and his gang."

Finishing his explanation with a chuckle, Godfrey suggested, "Well, it's quite the puzzle, but as long as he's fine. How about we all grab dinner together before I head out? Is Logan around?"

"Right here."
