Sure enough, things were entirely different when Rachel was around.
Lynn wasn't his daughter.
Actually, Yvan's memory of Rachel getting pregnant was a bit fuzzy. He only remembered being drunk, waking up next to Rachel in the same bed. But that didn't matter much; he had been with Rachel for a while by that point, and they hadn't been intimate. So, even if they had been, it wouldn't have been a big deal. Then, a month later, Rachel was pregnant.
He had automatically assumed the child was his, especially after waking up in the same bed as Rachel. Every thought led him to embrace the relationship. Back then, he and Rachel were in love, without any real doubts. And then... Rachel met with a tragedy.
A life lost too soon.
That's how the coroner put it. As for the truth, by the time it reached him, it was all reduced to ashes.
But now, with Rachel's return, he began to doubt everything about that time, until Earl presented him with a genuine paternity test. Yvan finally had his answer.
Rachel had kept a lot from him...
Yvan stared at the report. "So, the previous one was fake?"
"Obviously." Earl crossed his arms. "Looks like someone bribed the hospital staff to forge that paternity test. Have you ever thought about why?"
Why?
Was Rachel trying to get back into the Boyd family?
But she could have done that before. Why then introduce Matilda later, pushing him to marry her?
Yvan remained silent, prompting Earl to sigh. "I'm not directly involved, so I don't know the details. Just know the paternity test was tampered with. This one's real, keep it safe. I haven't made a fuss about it, just in case."
"Thanks." Yvan's voice was husky. He stood up, his brow furrowed with a deep, indissoluble fog.
Later, Carl called Yvan with news... a man had spent the night at Ms. Thompson's place.
