Yvan took a deep breath, turning to face Rachel with a look in his eyes that carried complexities Rachel dared not delve into.
"As for other matters, if you're thinking of crossing Matilda..." Yvan's voice was measured, his gaze fixed on Rachel's face, "Don't blame me for turning my back on you."
A shiver ran through Rachel's heart. Could it be that Yvan... had he sensed something? But because of her paralysis, he had remained silent all this while?
Why wouldn't he speak up? Did he know, or did he not?
Rachel dared not probe further, fearful that she too was being tested by Yvan. With no choice left, she bit her lip, her eyes welling up, "Yvan... please, don't be so harsh. It scares me."
Yvan closed his eyes and turned away, leaving Rachel in her wheelchair, staring at his retreating figure. Her fingers clenched tightly around the armrests of the wheelchair.
Matilda... she vowed to reclaim everything she had lost, and more, from Matilda!
...
These days, Matilda was living quite comfortably, with New Year's Eve fast approaching. Eugene's company had given him time off, and neither Criss nor Eugene had ever experienced a New Year in White City. So, this year, they decided to stay stateside instead of heading back home. Eugene moved into Godfrey's mansion along with Criss. The mansion had plenty of rooms to spare, and their presence added to the festive atmosphere. Chloe spent every day with them, engaging in spirited games of cards, laughter permeating the room.
On the eve of the Little New Year, Godfrey prepared a lavish dinner. Logan was in a smaller room, video-calling his mentor. On the screen, R7CKY and Ventus were dressed in their usual black and white attire, Ventus with his perennial icy demeanor and R7CKY all smiles, "Happy New Year in advance."
"Same to you, mentor! And don't forget my gift!" Logan playfully stretched out his hand.
"A debt collector, huh!"
R7CKY laughed and teased, "Once I wrap up my business here, I'll see if I'm still in the country. If I am, I'll come join you for the New Year's celebration."
