Just as Yvan was about to leave, the living room lights flickered on with a snap.
Matilda, stepping out for a late-night trip to the bathroom, hadn’t expected to find her son’s bedroom door ajar. Assuming Logan was also up for a bathroom break, she was taken aback to hear whispers coming from outside the door. Venturing further, she laid eyes on Logan and Yvan standing in the hallway.
Caught in the act, the father and son duo looked like burglars frozen in the headlights – their faces, one mature and one young, lifted in unison, painted with shock and bewilderment, clearly at a loss for words.
Logan’s voice stuttered, “Mom, you’re… you’re awake?”
Yvan was equally surprised. Matilda up and about at this hour? And she caught him in the act of giving Logan a red envelope!
Standing in the living room, draped in her bathrobe, Matilda’s complexion was ghostly. She looked from Logan to Yvan, stepping back as her voice barely whispered, “You two… when did you start…?”
Going behind her back, forgiving each other and meeting in secret?!
Tears welled up in Matilda’s eyes, “Logan! Come here!”
No… not with Yvan! He could take everything from her, just like he once took her son!
She couldn’t let Logan grow fond of Yvan!
Holding the envelope in his hands, Logan stumbled back, but Matilda’s sharp eyes immediately noticed it.
Retreating further, her disappointment palpable, she questioned, “You accepted his money? Logan… you took his money? Am I not enough?”
