But Matilda knew that, in the end, a father and son share an unbreakable bond, thicker than water. She couldn’t stand in the way of their relationship, nor could she offer Logan what Yvan could.
“You’re a Boyd…” Matilda looked into Logan’s eyes, “If anything ever happens to the Boyd family… Logan, you have to stand up.”
Logan’s eyes brimmed with tears, “Nothing’s gonna happen to the Boyd family. Yvan’s got it under control. I don’t want to have anything to do with the Boyd family…”
Matilda sighed, looking at the ceiling. Yvan had already left the room, as silently as if he'd never been there.
But soon, Orson, as if struck by a sudden thought, rushed out after him.
In the hallway, he shouted Yvan’s name, “Yvan!”
Yvan turned in surprise to see the usually quiet man standing opposite him, like two scales in balance, keeping each other in check.
“Can you… please stay in Matilda’s room? Don’t leave,” Orson asked, a sense of urgency in his voice that made Yvan widen his eyes in shock.
Orson was visibly anxious, “We’re running out of time, I…”
Before he could finish, gunshots echoed through the hallway!
In that instant, Yvan and Orson turned simultaneously, as several figures in black emerged from the shadows. Orson pushed Yvan away, shouting, “They’re after me, run!”
Yvan thought of leaving, but then his thoughts flew to Matilda in the room. The hallway erupted into screams as everyone flung their doors open and dashed out, spurred into a frenzy by the gunfire.
Orson’s face turned pale; bringing Matilda to the hospital had unwittingly exposed them!
“Yvan!”
Just as Orson was about to make a plea, he saw that Yvan had disappeared.
