A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 555

Lynn felt a piercing pain all over her body, tears streaming down her face as Rachel's grip tightened. What did she do wrong? Why did her own mother have to treat her this way?

But Lynn's look of utter despair only seemed to fuel Rachel's fury more, the young girl curling into a ball on the ground, her eyes filled with hopelessness. Why couldn't her mom be the gentle lady she was just a moment ago? She envied Logan so much.

...

When Lynn returned to Opal's side, her face no longer bore the signs of her grievance. Rachel had warned her with a harsh tone not to mention anything in front of Opal, or she'd "rip her mouth apart."

Frightened, Lynn didn't dare say a word, tiptoeing around to keep Opal happy. Opal, holding her hand, said, "You're also a Boyd. You've got to be stronger than that rascal, got it?"

Lynn nodded timidly, her eyes filled with fear. What if, one day, the old lady found out she wasn't Yvan's daughter... Would she face an even harsher punishment then?

Logan woke up in the next room two hours later, finding his father Yvan sitting nearby. Instinctively, he touched his head, finding it wrapped in bandages, resembling a character from an old cartoon, "One-Eared Pete," due to an injury close to his brain.

"Does your ear still hurt?" Yvan asked, seeing his son awake.

"A little..."

"It's good you're okay," Yvan sighed, settling back into his chair. "Anything else feel off?"

Logan shook his head but asked about Matilda, "How's mom? Is she okay?"
