A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 610

"Have you lost your marbles? This doesn't sound like something the wildly cool Yvan would do!"

Logan and Matilda exchanged incredulous glances. Yet, when Yvan himself had made the effort to come over, and it was Violet's stew he brought—Matilda saw no point in holding a grudge against the food itself. She stepped forward to take the container from Chloe, whispering, "Then please tell Violet, thanks from me."

"Will do."

Yvan watched as Matilda accepted the stew, a bittersweet feeling washing over him. She was completely at ease around him now, without a trace of resistance or awkwardness. If this had been back in the day, Matilda would have been all bristles and defenses around Yvan.

Yvan's heart was a tumult of emotions, but he found them hard to articulate. Logan, however, had spotted the box of jewelry and opened it with an exclamation, "Wow, is this for me?"

"Yep, it's from Grandma."

Yvan glanced at Logan, "If you don't want it, it's fine to just leave it. Grandma had it made for you a while back but never found the right moment to give it to you."

"It's from Grandma; I'm definitely keeping it."

Logan immediately put on the necklace.

But Yvan was reminded of the birthday gifts he had once given, now nothing but ashes buried in a trash can.

Swallowing hard, the contrast made the irony even sharper.

After delivering the items, Yvan bid them goodnight. Matilda and Logan responded in kind, and as the door closed behind him, Yvan's departing figure seemed as lonely as the last man on earth.

Inside, Chloe closed the door and turned to Matilda, snatching the thermos from her hands, "Perfect for a late-night snack!"
