A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 626

"Mr. Crowe, we've lost all outside contact!"

"Useless!"

Chad still had the home turf advantage, not to mention several hostages in his grasp. The chaos was only temporary. Once Yvan's reinforcements were worn out, he was confident he'd emerge victorious!

Chad turned and shouted, "Get the backup comms online! For crying out loud, we're in the middle of nowhere – didn't you prepare for this? Move it! I need updates, now!"

"Backup comms?" Logan snickered from inside the vehicle. He hadn't joined the fray outside, knowing all too well that he was just a kid. But he could wage war from miles away. "Not happening. I've hacked every single one of your devices. Good luck getting away now!"

"Godfrey!" Chloe had finally broken free only to see a man raising a knife towards Godfrey. She pushed with all her might, and the blade sank into her abdomen instead. Chloe whimpered, pain washing over her as she collapsed into Godfrey's arms.

Seeing Chloe injured, Godfrey's eyes turned bloodshot. He kicked the man down, snatched the knife from his hand, and roared, "I'll kill you!"

"No—" Chloe's voice was faint, her bloodied fingers clutching at Godfrey's sleeve, "No... don't kill him! Godfrey, don't become like them—"

Godfrey's arm froze mid-air, and then he let out a beast-like growl, thrusting the knife into the ground before viciously stomping on the assailant's chest.

As the attacker coughed up blood, Godfrey scooped Chloe into his arms, his gaze fixed on the blood seeping from her wound. "It's okay... I'm sorry I was late. Don't you dare die on me, Chloe..."

"I won't..." Chloe clung to Godfrey's hand, "I'm glad... it was you who came for me."

Not Declan, thank goodness...
