A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 633

The man, who once enjoyed the prime of his middle age, now looked thin and aged beyond his years. Facing Matilda, he mustered a smile that resembled more of a grimace than an expression of happiness. "Mat, you've come?"

"Grandpa."

Logan couldn't hold back his tears and rushed forward to embrace him. Noel, stroking Logan's face, murmured repeatedly, "He looks so much like... He could almost be Yvan."

Matilda stood there, her expression cold, yet her hands were clenched tightly.

Before the evening even arrived, Violet was overwhelmed with grief and fainted. Matilda immediately went to help, ensuring she was taken to the hospital and asked Keaton to pay special attention. Keaton, running up and down the hospital corridors, couldn't help but wipe away tears with the back of his hand.

Violet's condition deteriorated, her consciousness clouded. When Matilda called her name, she would respond, but that was all she could manage. Her eyes were vacant and numb, as if her entire being had been hollowed out, leaving only an empty shell behind.

Matilda shook her head, knowing there was nothing more she could do. She had already done more than enough for Yvan's family.

Returning home, Noel sat alone on the couch in what used to be a lively family home. In times past, Yvan would have been there, engaging in a friendly game of chess, a battle of wits between father and son that filled the house with joy.

But now, all of that was gone.

As Matilda entered, she announced, "Keaton is at the hospital taking care of things. Please take care of yourself; I must be going."

"Mat…" Noel's voice cracked, tears streaming down his face for what seemed like the umpteenth time. Who could have imagined that a member of the Boyd family, once so splendid and proud, would ever display such a shattered demeanor?

Noel's knees nearly gave way, and Matilda, alarmed, rushed to support him. "Noel!"

With a trembling voice, Noel grasped Matilda's hand, "An eye for an eye..."

At that moment, Matilda felt as if her heart had been pierced by a sharp blade.

Noel clung to Matilda's hand as if it were his lifeline, his voice laden with sorrow and age. Matilda, tears blurring her vision, saw the man kneel before her, a gesture so profound she stepped back in shock. "Noel, you—"

"This is what the Boyd family owes you…" Noel closed his eyes, tears falling, "It's the karma the Boyd family has sown, the fruit of our actions! It's our burden to bear—Mat, I apologize on behalf of my wayward son Yvan. From now on, the Boyd family will no longer be a burden to you. You're free to go. I know you helped out of kindness, but the Boyd family has no right to ask for your help. We don't deserve it… Dust to dust, ashes to ashes, we accept our fate…"

Matilda felt her heart wrench in agony.
