A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 640

"There's no point in living without him!"

Violet was pulled away by Adrian and Declan, and later, when Yvan's body was brought back, cremated, and buried the next day, she collapsed in tears, a never-ending stream of sorrow.

The funeral was a quiet affair; the entire company was still in the dark about Yvan's death. If word got out, it would spell chaos, and the Boyd family might just fall apart.

After everything was over, Matilda felt like she was walking in a daze back home; the funeral felt like it lasted an entire century.

When she woke up the next day in the early hours, she realized she had fallen asleep on the couch, covered with a blanket Logan must have draped over her in the middle of the night.

She tiptoed to Logan's room and found the boy awake, tapping away at his computer with a USB stick plugged in. Hearing her, he turned, his face a mirror image of Yvan's, the only comfort for the Boyd family now.

"Why are you still up?" Matilda asked.

"Yvan left me a USB before he died," Logan said openly. "It has some programs he wrote when he was learning to code and some of his lecture notes and outlines."

Turning his chair to face Matilda, Logan said, "This is the only thing he left me."

Everything else, all gone, consumed by flames.

Hearing this, Matilda's eyes welled up. "Just don't stay up too late; you're still so young."

"Mom, do you remember what you once told me?" Logan asked, looking into his mother's eyes. "If something happened to the Boyd family, would we go back to help?"

Matilda froze, only to hear Logan continue, "Yvan was the largest shareholder, but there are many others. If something happened to Yvan, they'd try to take over as the biggest shareholder and push the Boyd family aside, swallowing up the Boyd Group."

A chill ran through Matilda; she hadn't considered this, but Logan had.

His young mind was filled with mature thoughts far beyond his years, even considering such a distant future.

"So, the Boyd Group is also in danger. Declan did the right thing by keeping it quiet at first; we need to stabilize things step by step. Grandpa is saying Yvan went abroad to study, but what if Yvan never comes back?" Logan paused, then added, "Doubts will surely arise within the company."

Matilda clenched her fists. Indeed, if Yvan remained missing, the company would be restless, and the senior shareholders would surely start plotting.

"It's not realistic for Grandpa to take Yvan's place at his age. So, besides the loss of the Boyd family members, we face another urgent crisis: the future of the Boyd Group."

Logan's gaze, icy and dark, bore into Matilda's, ominously reminding her of Yvan's own penetrating stare. "Just like what happened to the Thompson family, in the end, they were devoured."
