A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 649

A group of people stood solemnly in front of the grave as Violet rambled on about many things. Ever since Yvan passed away, it seemed like she and her husband, Noel, had aged years overnight. What should have been their golden years had turned into a period of profound grief.

Matilda watched from the side, her heart aching for them. She knew all too well the pain of losing a loved one, and she could only imagine how the Boyds must be feeling.

After a while, Matilda, holding Logan's hand, said, "We should get going."

"Mat."

To Violet, seeing Matilda was like seeing a pillar of support. Yvan had adored Matilda the most, and it was a cruel twist of fate that only in the end did he understand his true feelings for her.

"Violet, let's not dwell on the past. Logan is Yvan's son, after all, and I won't keep him from visiting his father," Matilda preempted Violet's thoughts. "As for Yvan and me, that's all in the past now. No one can forgive for us, but also, no one else should be dragged into this. I see how hard this has been on you and Noel. Just shout if you need anything, and I'll help if I can."

"How did we, the Boyd family, ever deserve..." Noel, tears streaming down his face, took Matilda's hand, "to have such a wonderful daughter-in-law. After everything we've done to you, and yet you..."

"Everyone's gone, and the past is like dust in the wind. It's unnecessary now. It's all buried deep in the earth," Matilda said with a soft smile, her eyes slightly red as she fought back her emotions. "Maybe it's a form of release for all of us. I hope you won't grieve too much. Logan will grow up and make you proud."

"Alright... alright..." Noel wiped away his tears. "That's a promise, lad. Grandpa is waiting to see you become a strong man."

"I'll be stronger than Dad," Logan assured his grandfather. "Don't cry, Grandpa. Dad would want you to be happy and safe."

As they parted ways, Matilda noticed Logan had been remarkably stoic throughout, almost as though he was detached from the pain of losing his father.
