A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 686

Matilda, for reasons she couldn't fully articulate, snapped back, "Enough!"

Adrian froze.

"He's gone, and with him, my ability to love again. So, please don't waste your energy on me." Matilda turned her head away with difficulty. "Adrian, I'm sorry I can't return your feelings. I don't even have the capacity to love anyone right now."

Yvan's death took away Matilda's ability to open her heart to love once more.

Adrian remained silent, his gaze locked on Matilda. Eventually, he managed to suppress the storm within him and stepped back. "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have been so rough."

Matilda curled up at the edge of the bed, covering herself with the blanket. "I share the blame. I should have been clear with you."

Adrian felt that Matilda's polite tone was a form of torture to him.

A silent torture.

Eventually, Matilda slowly recounted everything, her voice trembling with residual fear as she spoke of those men. Adrian's heart twisted in pain, and he moved to embrace her, his earlier aggression gone.

"I'm sorry..." His voice was muffled. "I'm the one who should apologize. I misjudged you without understanding the situation..."

"It's okay." Matilda offered a pale smile. "I came back too abruptly, without considering how it would affect you all."
