A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 734

When Matilda and Mark arrived at the fondue restaurant, it was just a bit before the dinner rush, so it wasn't crowded. They got seated in a private booth without having to wait. As soon as they sat down, Mark passed the menu to Matilda with a gentlemanly gesture, "Ladies first."

Matilda glanced at Chase, who showed no objection, "Don't mind me. Go ahead and choose. I'm easy, I'll eat anything."

Without much hesitation, Matilda picked a few of her favorites, and then Mark and Chase added some more to the order. With the order placed, they casually chatted while waiting for their food and the fondue broth to arrive.

"By the way, Matilda, how did you end up meeting Yvan?" Chase was genuinely curious. In his eyes, both Matilda and Yvan were figures shrouded in legend. Their life stories were something most people wouldn't even dare to dream about, which he found quite admirable. "I heard it was abroad?"

Matilda smiled, "At first, I thought he just looked similar... but it turned out to be him. He had amnesia, so he didn't recognize me."

"A twist of fate..." Chase didn't know what else to say, and ended with a sigh, "It's really a twist of fate... After all the twists and turns, I thought being separated by life and death would be the end for you two, but you still managed to find each other."

Matilda leaned her chin on her hand, her smile serene, brushing off all her past pains with a light laugh, "Yeah, I thought Yvan was gone for good. I figured, if he really was gone, I'd take up all the responsibilities on my behalf."

"What if he didn't die?" Chase probed further. "Now that he's back, what do you plan to do?"

"Let things be," Matilda said with a gentle smile, her demeanor steady and graceful, a testament to a life of overcoming hardships. "Have you ever heard the saying, 'I love you, but I don't like you anymore. If there comes a day when you're about to die, I would trade my life for yours without hesitation; but if you're living well, I think it's better we don't see each other'?"

Whoever said those words must have gone through quite a lot.
