A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 736

Yvan's words had barely left his mouth before the shock registered on the faces of the three others at the table. His complexion shifted as he awkwardly tried to retract, saying, "I... just slipped out."

Mark, seemingly unfazed, turned to Matilda and said, "Next time, just give me a heads up, and I won’t go passing you the cilantro."

"It's okay, really." Matilda, feeling mortified for picking out the cilantro from her dish, reassured Mark, "Don’t overthink it, we used to..."

"I get it."

Mark suddenly threw in, giving Matilda a look of understanding that seemed to hold deeper meaning, "Everyone has a past."

Yvan cringed at those words. They seemed to imply that whatever had happened between him and Matilda was in the past, but it was natural to remember each other’s likes and dislikes due to their complicated history. It suggested that everyone was moving forward and such trivial matters wouldn’t bother him.

The self-proclaimed "World's Jealous Champion" gritted his teeth. So what about the past? Just because he hadn’t pursued Matilda properly before, did that mean he couldn’t now?

What was supposed to be a cozy hotpot dinner turned awkward with Yvan's presence. Thankfully, Chase knew how to lighten the mood, and soon everyone seemed to be back to enjoying their meal. Matilda, having lost her appetite, put down her chopsticks and picked up her phone.

"Are you full?" Yvan asked after a long silence.

Matilda, startled, looked over at Yvan. His handsome profile was striking under the dim lights—defined jawline, sharp nose, and thin lips. Yvan always carried himself with a certain pride, chin slightly up, which accentuated his chiseled jaw and the adam's apple, giving him an untamed look. From a distance, he resembled a piece of renaissance art.

Matilda averted her gaze, simply responding, "Yeah."
