Yvan was visibly annoyed, "Why can't I pursue her now?"
"Man, she's done with you. She wants to move on. Why do you keep bugging her?" Chase glanced at Yvan, "You're acting like one of those cliché guys in movies who mess up, realize their mistake too late, and then desperately try to win back the girl."
Yvan was speechless, stammering after a long pause, "I... I don't care. If I have to, I'll apologize to Matilda later. I can't just let her go off with someone else now."
Chase couldn't help but laugh, having not seen Yvan at a loss for words in ages. Matilda seemed to be his Achilles' heel.
Laughing without restraint at Yvan's expense, Chase's reaction only fueled Yvan's desire to throw a punch, "What's so funny? Haven't seen a guy try to make amends? Just because I was a jerk before doesn't mean I am one now!"
Chase, pushing his luck, nodded, "Doesn't seem like you've improved much. Matilda has forgotten all she did for you. If I were her, I'd be ice cold by now. Turn around and find someone else, who'd bother with you?"
"You dare mock me—" Yvan was ready to start a fight right there in the street, lunging at Chase as they both exchanged heated words, looking more like squabbling kids than adults. Passersby couldn't help but stare.
"What are you looking at? Never seen a hot-headed hunk before?" Yvan snapped, his handsome features contorted in anger. He shoved Chase, "Drive me back to the office! I ditched several important meetings just to grab lunch with you."
Chase burst into laughter, "Bro, looks like you're gonna be skipping more than just meetings from now on."
Yvan frowned, "What do you mean?"
"I bet Mark's gonna keep asking Matilda out," Chase provocatively said, barely containing his laughter, "You're gonna be spilling your jealousy all over the place and running surveillance on Mark and Matilda every day."
Damn, why did I ever befriend this guy!
