Matilda had been finding herself with a lot of free time on her hands lately.
After she handed off her responsibilities, it felt like the 24 hours in a day stretched on endlessly. Chloe and Godfrey were inseparable, leaving Matilda with nothing much to do but join Adrian in the daily routine of dropping off and picking up Logan from school, always punctually waiting outside the elementary school gates at four o'clock.
One day, Logan's teacher pulled Matilda aside and whispered, "I think your son is really too advanced for elementary school. He's already familiar with all the course material, and sometimes he talks about things even we haven't heard of... Did he study on his own before?"
Matilda remembered the time she filled in as CEO for Yvan, during which Logan had left school to study complex subjects on his own. Perhaps returning to elementary school was indeed a bit of a waste of his time. Tentatively, she asked, "So, do you think... our Logan should skip ahead to middle school?"
The teacher, not wanting to waste such a prodigious talent, immediately helped Matilda submit an acceleration request. The next day, Matilda and Adrian brought Logan to the principal's office for an assessment test. The results left everyone astounded.
"Your... your son," the principal stammered, papers trembling in his hands, "he could go straight to high school! His math and English skills are at the level of high school, even some college students in top schools!"
Matilda and Adrian were speechless, but Logan, pen in hand, remained cool and collected. Hearing the principal's praise, he responded with a detached air, "Thank you for the compliment, sir. You flatter me."
He sounded just like his dad, effortlessly blending arrogance and indifference.
The principal felt his entire worldview shattering. He was so flabbergasted he nearly threw his glasses out the window of his third-floor office, exclaiming, "In all my years, I've never seen a student like your son! Oh my goodness, his intellectual capacity is leagues beyond the average person!"
Regaining his composure, the principal quickly said, "This intelligence... you could be on national television! Logan, would you be willing to..."
Before he could finish, Logan cut in, "No, thank you."
The teachers in the room were stunned.
Logan explained, "Have you ever heard of the ancient story about a wise young man who was paraded around by his family for his intellect, only to become indistinguishable from the average person as he grew up?"
He shook his head gently, "Having talents isn't something to boast about. I see no need for public attention. I must continue to hone my skills quietly."
It's rare to find someone with talent who knows the value of keeping a low profile, a true embodiment of wisdom in simplicity.
The teachers couldn't help but admire him, "Logan, we're proud of you. We hope you won't end up just another face in the crowd. You're destined for great things."
Indeed, Matilda could never have imagined that this little boy would grow up to be a towering figure, a mastermind controlling the city with ease.
And yet, in this moment, Logan just smiled, a simple child's smile, sweetly saying, "Thank you for the compliment, teacher."
