From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 432

Foley’s voice got softer and softer, until he was pretty much just mumbling. By the end, even he wasn’t sure if Laurinda was the one behind everything.

They didn’t really know how powerful Laurinda was, but they’d all heard the rumors about her getting hurt back at Mistfall Atoll. None of it made sense, and the more they thought about it, the more confused they got.

After a moment, Foley spoke up. “Egan, should we go check things out? If it really is Laurinda, and she gets hurt, we’ll be the ones paying for it in the end.”

Egan thought about it for a second, glancing back at the operating room. “But Adolphus is still in surgery. We can’t just leave him…”

“I’ll take some people and go,” Foley cut in. “You stay here and look after Adolphus, Egan.”

Now wasn’t the time for second guessing. They both knew exactly what kind of people the Riley family were. Adolphus had gotten hurt because he walked right into one of their traps. There was just no way they could relax without seeing what was happening for themselves.

“Alright. Go check it out, and take as many people as you can. If things get messy, just get Laurinda out of there. Nothing else matters.”

“I know,” Foley said, and then he was gone.

Egan watched him leave, then turned his eyes to the window. The sky was already getting lighter at the edges. Dawn was almost here. He just hoped this would all be over soon.

Laurinda didn’t hesitate. She drove straight through the gates of the Riley estate, tires screeching, a cloud of dust behind her. The place was unrecognizable. Explosions had ripped the grounds apart. Rescue crews rushed back and forth, ambulances waiting outside as they loaded up the injured and sped away.

Taylor, the Riley family heir, stepped out of the villa. He paused, squinting into the chaos, then spotted a figure he knew all too well. Instinctively, his hand went to his back, searching for his gun.

He never made it. Before he could even touch his weapon, something cold and hard pressed into his side. He froze, barely daring to breathe.
