“Don’t you have anyone you care about, Laurinda? Aren’t you worried about payback? How can you act so fearless? You do realize this is Mistfall Atoll, right? My turf.”
Taylor’s voice shook with anger. He’d spent years running things here, but he’d never seen anyone stir up trouble like this. Blowing up an estate? That was a first. He honestly couldn’t wrap his head around how Laurinda dared to go this far.
“It’s because you messed with someone I care about. You think I want to play these games with you? Taylor, you never should have touched him.”
Just thinking about Adolphus still on the operating table made her anger flare up all over again. She barely hesitated. In a blink, she pulled a pistol from her pocket and fired twice at Taylor’s legs before anyone could react.
Renata and Leo just stared, completely shocked. When Laurinda snapped, she was honestly terrifying.
Taylor collapsed to his knees, panic all over his face. He couldn’t believe it. Laurinda, after all this time, was even crazier than before.
“You…”
“Enough!”
Laurinda pressed the hot barrel of her gun to Taylor’s forehead, but a cold voice cut through the chaos. Someone tall and lean was sprinting toward them.
She turned, her eyes narrowing as she recognized who it was. Great, she thought, just what I needed—him showing up.
The man stalked straight over, grabbed her wrist tight, and growled, “You’ve gone way too far this time!”
Laurinda stared back at the blond, blue-eyed man. Her own dark eyes flashed cold, and a mocking smile tugged at her lips.
“Too far? If I remember right, that’s exactly what you said last time. I listened to you, didn’t I? And look how that turned out. I was the one who almost died.”
She closed her eyes briefly, took a deep breath, and forced herself to stay calm.
