From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 434

Lamont watched as dozens of people stepped out of the cars, all of them armed. His heart skipped when he saw Foley standing in front of Laurinda, shielding her.

“You… why are you here?”

Foley gave Lamont a polite nod, a smile playing on his lips, though it didn’t warm his eyes. “Lamont, we meet again. I’m here for Laurinda. Unless you have something urgent, we’ll be heading out now.”

Lamont remembered meeting Foley and Adolphus when they first arrived at Mistfall Atoll. That conversation hadn’t exactly ended on a friendly note, which explained the tension now.

He frowned. “You two… how do you even know each other?”

His mind raced. Out of everyone, these were the last two people he wanted joining forces. A knot of dread tightened in his chest.

Foley just shrugged. “That’s between us. We don’t owe you an explanation. Take care, Lamont. We’ll be going.”

He turned to Laurinda and gestured for her to get in the car. Her safety came first.

But Laurinda stayed put, looking calm and in control. Foley’s timing was perfect. With him here, she could finally get the shipment out.

“No rush. Isn’t your cargo still in the warehouse? Renata already sent people to check and count everything. Take it all with you.”

Foley’s brows drew together for a moment. He hadn’t expected Laurinda to have tracked down their cargo. He quickly called Zero Six and told him to send a crew to pick everything up.

Lamont listened to their easygoing conversation about the cargo, realizing he was completely sidelined. There was nothing he could do today. He’d have to wait for another chance to talk to Laurinda.

He guessed Taylor wasn’t in any real danger with Laurinda, though he’d probably be in for a rough time.

Even as Lamont and his people left, Laurinda didn’t look his way. Foley, on the other hand, finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.
