From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 440

The plane touched down in Cabinda, and thanks to Sam’s connections, they skipped all the crowds and took a private route straight through the airport. They barely slowed down before they reached the hospital, where Balaam was already waiting for them.

The first thing Balaam did was look Laurinda over, searching her face for any sign of distress. When he saw she was alright, he finally let out a breath, though his brow stayed knit with worry.

“What happened? How did a simple trip turn into this? I knew there had to be more to your sudden trip abroad.”

“Balaam, let’s talk about it later. Right now, can you please check on him? These three are the neurologists I brought. You can get the details from them.”

Laurinda wasn’t about to waste time with explanations. What happened to Adolphus was complicated, and definitely not something she wanted to discuss in the open. The most important thing now was his health.

Balaam picked up on her urgency and didn’t push for details. He led Adolphus into a hospital room that was ready and waiting. As he started checking Adolphus’s pulse, his frown only deepened.

Laurinda stood to the side, holding her breath. She knew doctors tended to get absorbed in their work, but seeing Balaam look like that made her even more anxious.

She waited until Balaam let go of Adolphus’s wrist before daring to ask, “Balaam, how is he?”

“I’ve never seen a case quite like this,” Balaam said, sighing. “Let me try acupuncture first. You all wait outside for me.”

Once Balaam was alone with Adolphus, Laurinda hovered just outside the room, peering in through the glass window. Her hands were clenched together as she silently wished for Adolphus to wake up.

“Adolphus is strong. He’ll be fine,” Sam said gently. “None of you have eaten yet, have you? Maybe you should get something to eat, then rest at the hotel.”
