From Ashes of Scandals to His Embrace novel Chapter 482

As soon as they decided what to eat, they headed out. Adolphus jumped into the passenger seat, stealing glances at Laurinda, who gripped the steering wheel with confident hands. He couldn’t help but doubt her driving a little.

“How about I drive instead?”

Laurinda just lifted an eyebrow and gave him a playful smile. Without another word, she pressed the gas and the car shot forward.

“Laurinda, this is a speed limit zone. Maybe slow down a bit?”

The speed dropped, and Adolphus realized her driving was actually incredibly smooth. He turned in his seat, interest growing as he watched her handle the car.

“When did you get so good at this? Don’t tell me there’s more to you I don’t know.”

Laurinda smirked and raised her brow at him again. “Does street racing count?”

Hearing her admit it out loud, Adolphus felt a little helpless. That was exactly what he’d suspected after that wild burst of acceleration. Clearly, Laurinda didn’t just have skills, she had some seriously risky ones.

“No more racing... I mean it.”

He didn’t ask why she ever got into it. Whether it was interest, excitement, or something else, he decided it didn’t matter anymore.

Right now, the only thing that mattered was keeping her safe. From now on, he was not about to let Laurinda do anything so dangerous again. He didn’t want to even imagine her getting hurt.

Laurinda was focused on the road, barely tolerating his fussing. At a red light, she tugged on her seatbelt, leaned in, and pressed her lips to his. Her voice was low and assertive. “Can you just be quiet for once?”

Adolphus couldn’t help but chuckle, caught between wanting to laugh and being a little flustered by just how fearless she was. Her pointed look left him no choice but to zip it.

Thinking about it made her remember what Teddy had told her that morning about Jarred.

“Jarred’s already causing trouble at the institute to stop me from taking over. He’s refusing to use my funding and is reaching out to different families for support. The Main family has already turned him down. Do you think he’ll go to the Lane family next?”

Adolphus shook his head, confident about his answer. “No way. Everyone knows about us now. The Lane family is your backup. He’d only embarrass himself if he tried, and I doubt he’ll approach the Bill family either. So, who does he have left?”

He let his words hang there. Laurinda looked at him, confused, waiting for him to finish.

“What’s wrong?”

Adolphus stayed silent, leaving her even more puzzled. She couldn’t think of a single family in Cabinda who would want to get involved, either.
