Laurinda’s face twisted as soon as Adolphus said Nelly’s name. Just thinking about her always left Laurinda with this uneasy, almost disgusted feeling she couldn’t quite explain.

“She’d get involved in research work too?” Laurinda asked, eyebrows raised.

“Maybe she would. The Dale Group has projects tied to aerospace. If it helps her company grow, you can bet she’ll use it as a chance to poach some promising people. But let’s just wait. I’ve got a solution lined up.”

Laurinda’s curiosity was piqued. She leaned closer. “What kind of solution?”

“I’ll cut off her funding. If The Dale Group suddenly has money problems, there’s no way she can spare anything to back Jarred.”

Laurinda flashed him a big grin and even gave him a thumbs-up. She was all for this kind of straightforward approach, but she couldn’t help teasing, “Aren’t you worried Nelly will want payback?”

“If I leave her be, she’ll already be relieved. She wouldn’t dare try anything.”

Adolphus had only found out that Nelly had secretly moved company money to help Patten when he was getting ready to teach her a lesson. He clearly thought she deserved whatever came next.

Laurinda could sense there was a lot more going on, but it was a family thing and she didn’t want to meddle in their drama. She smiled and brushed it aside. “Forget about them for now. Let’s go grab some food.”

Laurinda unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out. Adolphus grabbed her bag from the car, then took her hand. They walked together toward the hot pot place.
