Chapter 430

Kaia POV

I could tell Isaiah doesn’t like my attorney. To be honest, I’m not a fan of him either from a personal perspective. However, from a professional perspective, he has my utmost respect. I said he is a barracuda, because he is. He isn’t afraid of going head-to-head with big businesses and he cannot be bought or bribed by those that he is suing.

I’m not stupid though. I see how he looks at me. He wants to pursue me and if I can see it, then I am sure as hell sure that Isaiah and Sinclair could too. That’s why I told Isaiah I wanted to talk to him at the Airbnb. It’s time to talk to him seriously and I will answer any questions he has. He will be the only one ! really tell everything to, and I feel it’s only right, since he is my mate. I love Sinclair like a sister, but she only knows the high-level outline, and I have never told her the details. It’s embarrassing for me and it has messed up a lot of my confidence.

The ride home was full of tension and excitement. I’m excited that this chapter is almost done and I can hopefully move forward with Isaiah in a new chapter. But there is tension because I’m nervous about being open to him, when I have never been open with anyone else before.

When we reached the Airbnb, I grabbed Isaiah’s hand and looked at Sinclair. “Girl, do you mind if Isaiah and I go upstairs. I need to talk to him privately. Then we can get some dinner ready.”

“Honestly, I want pizza tonight.” She said and it made me laugh. I pulled out my card and handed it to her, but Isaiah pulled it back and gave her his card instead.

“Order whatever you want and whatever you think we might want.” He said. He’s offering to pay for dinner. He paid for dinner the night before too. Something as simple as paying for dinner is making me emotional.

‘No. You have been neglected for years, Kaia. He’s taking care of you, like a mate should.’ Izo said.

‘My father didn’t even care, Izo. I don’t even know how to act about this.’ I said.

I hope you tell Isaiah about this too. He needs to understand. Storn is saying he is struggling with his patience because you won’t talk to him. He doesn’t think you really want him.’

I’m going to talk to him now. I promise.’ I said and I turned to Isaiah.

“Come on. I want to talk to you.” I said as I led him up the stairs and to his room.

Once we were inside with the door closed, Isaiah grabbed me and kissed me. I melted in his arms, and I heard a low rumble in his chest. I don’t know how much time has passed but when he pulled back, I felt dizzy all over again.

He smirked, “Sorry. I couldn’t help myself.”

My brain took a second to catch up. When I snapped back to reality, I could feel my cheeks warming.” Um, it’s okay. I, uh, wanted to talk to you.” I stumbled trying to get my composure back.

I grabbed his hand again and led him to the bed to sit and talk. He sits on the bed. His eyes are clearly curious and maybe a bit nervous? I don’t understand why, but I shake it off and get my nerve to start talking.

“Okay…um…I’ve never tried being this open to anyone before, so I’m sorry if this is all a little clumsy. Ask me questions if you have them, alright?”

“Never?”

I shook my head. “Never.”

He nodded, “Okay. Start from the beginning of whatever you want to tell me.”

I take a deep breath and begin. “Okay, so I grew up in a rich kid environment. I was given everything, but my parents’ attention. So, imagine a room full of stuff, but no one to play with, no one to hear how your day went or congratulate you on any of your achievements. It’s a lonely existence.”

His eyes softened and I think I’m painting the picture for him, so I continued. “You become a teenager and get in trouble one time. The teacher calls your dad and for the first time that you can ever remember, he drops everything. You don’t care if you are scolded; all you care about is that your dad is in front of you, paying attention to you and it becomes an addiction.”

“An addiction?” Isaiah asked.

“Yeah.” I sighed, “I craved the attention of my father and the only way I would get to see him is if I got in trouble. So, I got in trouble all the time. I did it on purpose because he would drop everything and see me. My mother was long gone by the time I got to high school, so my dad was all I had, but he was literally never around.”

“Now getting in trouble is a habit for you?” Isaiah smirked, but he was looking at me amused.

But I respond with no amusement and he notices. “It’s a way to make sure I’m not forgotten.”

His eyebrows furrowed. “Forgotten?”

“Yeah. When I turned nineteen, my father arranged a marriage for me with one of his business partners. His son was a little older and a bit wild and they thought we would hit it off.” I looked down remembering that memory. “My father told me that marrying my husband would help the family business and that there would be a prenuptial agreement in place to make sure he treated me right. I thought he was looking out for my best interests, but it was all for greed.”

“Greed?”

“Yeah. When I agreed to get married, I thought I would make it work and then I would be with someone who wanted me. I mean, he agreed to the arrangement as well. I didn’t think he would openly hate me.” I said. “My father only saw the dollar signs from the arrangement, and he really didn’t care about my well- being. That much was clear at the wedding. It was a huge mistake.”

“What happened at the wedding?” He asked me.
