Chapter 431
Kaia’s POV
“I’ll get to that in a minute.” I said as I continued telling him about my past, “I tried to grow a relationship with my husband, Isaiah. I would try to make dinners and burned my hands in the process. I never had anyone teach me those things. I learned though. I tried to go to his company and bring him lunch or text to ask him if I would see him at all. Each time I was met with cold indifference or turned away.” I said sadly.
“So, you never saw him either?”
“I rarely saw him. We saw each other during family gatherings. He never spoke to me either. My father would push me to have conversations with him, but he would walk away.” Then I looked up, remembering an even more hurtful memory. “One time, he texted me to say he was coming home; to the home I bought. I prepared dinner, excited that maybe he was finally going to have a conversation with me. I worked for hours preparing it and even had to throw away the first attempt because it came out disgusting. I set the table and waited. By the time he came to the house, it was almost ten at night and the food had gone cold.”
“I’m sorry.” He said and he looked angry and sad at the same time.
“It’s okay. Anyway, he got angry. Really angry. He told me that he texted me that he was coming home so I could leave. He didn’t even want to sleep under the same roof as me. He flipped the table over and all my hard work went on the ground. He screamed at me and basically said he didn’t want me and he was forced into the arrangement. He said I wasn’t desirable in any way, and no one would ever look at me like that either; and that’s the nice version.” I laughed bitterly. “After that, he stormed out and slammed the door behind him. From then on, I went on job after job and my only communication was to ask him to go to the house and let a repairman in. He agreed as long as I wasn’t there.”
“Did you ever tell your father about how he treated you?” Isaiah asked.
“Yeah. Several times. He just told me to try harder; we need this arrangement, etc. He didn’t care that my husband didn’t love me or want me. It wasn’t until I met Sinclair and asked her to hack into my dad’s personal computer to get the prenuptial agreement copy that I understood why he wanted me to
stay in the marriage.” I said, sighing. “If I stay married to my husband for five years, then my father gets fifteen percent of the shares of Black Enterprises. Then my husband could divorce me, and I would be left with nothing. Not even the house I paid for with my own money. But, if I caught my husband cheating three times and he abuses me, then I get all his assets and my father gets nothing.”
“Your father made that arrangement, and you signed it?” He asked.
“I didn’t read it. I was so desperate for my father’s attention that I trusted him blindly. When I found out, I was furious.” I said, remembering angrily, “I didn’t confront him though. I also didn’t want to quickly file for divorce without knowing how to get out of this marriage quickly. I didn’t want this to drag out to the five-year mark and then I get nothing. I want my father and my husband both to pay for setting me up and treating me like garbage.”
Chap 13
“That’s why you contracted that guy to be your attorney?” Isaiah asked, putting it all together.

“Yeah. I researched for the meanest attorney I could find. Mr. Fellman is a barracuda as an attorney. I met with him privately without anyone knowing my intentions. I told him everything he needed to know and then provided him with a copy of the prenup. He was not happy to see I was being used as pawn to enrich someone else’s life while being mistreated by my husband. He took my case and asked me some very private questions that embarrassed me. He said it was necessary to ask because it could fast track a divorce. Which brings me to the medical records.” I said, and my cheeks are warming.
“Okay, what about your medical records has you blushing this hard?” He asked me.
“So, there is a couple of ways to fast-track a divorce. I wanted to be ironclad. First, abuse will get a restraining order and put on the docket. But that won’t guarantee a quick divorce unless…” I said, and the words are stuck in my throat.
Isaiah sees how hard this is for me, and he lifts me onto his lap and kisses me softly. “Kaia, whatever it is, don’t be embarrassed to tell me. I’m your mate and I’m certainly not going to treat you the way that bastard did, okay? Tell me.” He asked softly.
My lip trembles and tears started falling despite my efforts to hold them back. He isn’t pushing me away or yelling at me. He isn’t flipping over furniture and slamming doors or telling me to put up with being treated like I’m garbage.
“He never touched me. Not once.” I said. “My medical records were to confirm I’m still a virgin. So, my marriage can be annulled and coupled with his cheating and abuse, I’m likely to be granted the divorce quickly. Hopefully, same day.”
Isaiah looked at me stunned. “He never touched you, kissed you, held your hand, slept in the same bed, or anything?”
“Yeah. He wanted and had a number of women; I was just never one of them. I went to three different doctors. All from the approved court list on purpose. That’s why Fellman said it would say having to do
rework.”
